If They Could See Your Beauty
Diana Zabaleta Anaya & Clara de la Lama Laviada
Translated from Spanish
Horseshoe crab,
Your age enlightens me,
Your wisdom teaches me,
Always calm, you swim by my boat.
Walking down the beach,
Crossing the beautiful ocean,
I find you, horseshoe crab,
Creating a path as you go.
Some call you “saucepan”
Some “sea cockroach”
Some call you “crab”
And some have traced you to Japan.
But you are not that far,
I can find you in my lagoons,
In my seas and on my beaches.
I find you everywhere,
Because I am fortunate.
Horseshoe crab, horseshoe crab,
Always so lonely,
If they could see your beauty,
They would know you are so lovely!
